Find Joy in the Journey
One of the most meaningful lessons I have learned in the first 5 years of motherhood is to find joy in the journey and go with the natural flow of change.
So often, in the first few months with each of my children I struggled to find a sense of routine and stability. I would fight so hard to get into a schedule and control nap times. I quickly learned that children change so much in the first year of their life that it is pretty much fruitless to try find a routine that lasts more than 3 weeks.
Learning to go with the flow os change is so important in all areas of life. Allowing ourselves to grow, change and let go of what no longer serves us is so crucial to our happiness. I am thankful that my children have helped me to understand this a little more.
A key thing I have learned that helps maintain my happiness is to acknowledge the phase we are in and think of some ways to find joy exactly where we are. Sometimes that means finding joy in ordering groceries online because my two year old is too energetic to take her to a grocery store. Sometimes it means joining my kids at the trampoline park and combining cardio with play times. We all have small things that we can do that bring us joy. The thing I have learned is that we need to work hard at incorporating those habits into our daily lives.
If you are stay at home try including your kids in some of the activities you love! I was pleasantly surprised that both my kids join in when I practice yoga. Sure, I have to press pause a few or 10 times, but it happens!
What are you some ways that you find joy in your day to day life? I would love to hear!
